What is Myofascial Release?

Just like you may feel the stress and tension of a tough day at work in your shoulders and neck, your past injuries and emotional memories are also stored in many places of the body. The superficial fascia, the layer above the muscles that is like a 3D web of connective tissue all over the body, stores this information, sometimes causing knot-like fascia restrictions.

By applying sustained pressure to the fascia, the bodyworker is able to connect to emotional memories, past unresolved traumas or mental concepts to help the body release them, and heal at a deep level.

Myofascial release can be used to:

  • Release past unresolved emotional issues
  • Heal past traumas
  • Release outdated mental concepts
  • Identify ‘holding’ patterns in the body
  • Decrease pain
  • Increase mobility/range of motion

When used in conjunction with Reiki, I find myofascial release particularly useful to release unconscious patterns that are not relevant to you anymore and allow you to live at your highest potential.
